I am still in love with my Outback. Over the 2,200 miles, we have bonded well. Today, I decided to take her down her first dirt road for a mini photoshoot.
Pics taken with an iPotato 6 Plus.

I carpooled to work last summer in an outback (same gen I believe) and it's quite the nice place to be. I think it would be a really great road trip car and with a manual, I would totally rock it as a family car. I could definitely see why there is a huge culture around subarus!
![]() 01/20/2015 at 22:37 |

Damn, it's taken me 3 months to get to 2200 miles on my car. Kinda bummed that I haven't driven it more but I haven't needed to. I'll probably be taking a decent road trip at some point this winter though so I'll get some more miles in. Congrats on the Outback.

Unfortunately for you (Unless you are in Canada), Subaru discontinued the manual Outback in the US for the 2015 Model year.

I will admit that about 1500 of them came from a road trip to Alabama and back, but I am still racking the miles up on my 50-65 round trip commute to and from school.

Sweet! I just got home from driving our 2015 Forester (my wife's DD) at a hair over 8000kms. I love how easy it is to drive: good visibility, power everywhere you need it (even mid-corner in a snow storm lol).
![]() 01/20/2015 at 22:46 |
|
Subaru's designers are great at extracting every little bit of visibility possible. Also,Is your wife's Fozzie the 2.5 or the 2.ot?

I only have to drive for work a couple of days in the week as I split time working at home, which is sweet. I do take the car for leisure drives when I feel like it so that adds some miles. If the roads around here weren't so dull those would make up a lot more of my mileage but c'est la vie.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 22:53 |

The roads in my part of NC are quite dull, but I make the best of it.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 23:09 |
|
The roads are better if I head toward where I go skiing (about an hour away) but where I live it's relatively flat, not requiring any curves. Just check out this totally accurate roadmap of my area:

Hah, very funny.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 23:15 |

It's the 2.5. It has adequate power and it's our road trip vehicle, so I'd actually prefer it not have the 2.0t to save a bit on fuel here and there lol. I'd honestly consider the 2.0t for my DD... makes me want to test drive one lol. That said, ever since my wife got the Forester, I weep a little inside every time I look at the interior of my Cobalt (my wife's old DD, we traded in my 2011 Cruze because it was a bit of a lemon). I can't stop thinking about Subaru's now and which I might want to buy (I guess I've caught the bug).
![]() 01/20/2015 at 23:21 |

Maybe you should look at the facelift Impreza or Crosstrek as a replacement for the Cobalt.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 23:28 |

A buddy at work just ordered one of those in the same white color - replacing a Nissan Xterra. Should have it in March. Do you have that electric hatch lift?
![]() 01/20/2015 at 23:44 |
|
We test drove the Crosstrek when we were at the dealer and the power seemed kind of lacking. I wonder how the impreza does with a stick.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 23:50 |
|
I do not have the electric hatch. I ended up just getting the Premium package with no added options. I hope your buddy enjoys his new Outback.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 23:51 |
|
I'm sure it would handle better, but I can't imagine the power output being any different. Maybe you should start saving for a WRX.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 23:52 |
|
That electric hatch was the only thing that bugged him - he got the premium with leather and sunroof, but not that goofy Subaru Eyesight option.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 23:55 |
|
The only reason that I got the premium over the base is because it came with a power seat and XM radio. I intend to add the features that I want over the next year or so, such as leather, or an upgraded speaker system. Also, I too found the Eyesight to be a bit goofy and not worth the insanely high price premium. The way I see it, the less features on the car, the less things to go wrong.
![]() 01/21/2015 at 00:03 |

Ya maybe I should lol. I really want to sit in and look a WRX when I go to the autoshow next month, the styling on the new WRX leaves me feeling kind of luke warm from what I've seen online and from afar.

I'm sure they drive great. I wish I were able to experience driving one, but alas, I am probably too tall to fit in one.

This generation looks so much better than the last .
![]() 01/21/2015 at 00:27 |

Glad you're enjoying it so far. That's a ton of miles to rack up in three weeks!
OBs are great for long hauls. Drove mine to northern Wisconsin, Canada, Columbia, MO and tons of other places last summer.
![]() 01/21/2015 at 06:23 |
|
So, have you managed to sell that 850 after all?
![]() 01/21/2015 at 06:27 |
|
Well that's fine I'd gladly buy a 2014 in like ten years from now. Probably will be hard to find though since they must not have sold well lol
![]() 01/21/2015 at 11:55 |
|
still haven't. There is a mechanic from the Volvo dealer where my mom bought her S60 who may be interested.
![]() 01/21/2015 at 11:58 |
|
The first 1500 miles were from a trip to Alabama within the first week of ownership. The rest have been added from my commute to and from school.
![]() 01/21/2015 at 11:59 |
|
if you were to look hard enough, you could probably find a Premium 2014 with a manual.
![]() 01/21/2015 at 12:00 |

thanks. The last one looks like it was designed by a child. The designers did a good job smoothing out out of the uglyness.
![]() 01/21/2015 at 12:26 |
|
Well I more importantly meant in the used market like ten years from now haha.

I meant in ten years. I probably should have worded my response better.
